Robert Trent Jones II designed the thirty-six holes at Lotte Skyhill Country Club on Jeju Island, which opened its doors in 2005. Jones said of his approach here, « during construction we found granite and living rock that are unique Jeju elements, and we enjoyed using them to create the artistic and functional character » of the club. The parkland setting is fairly level, but still offers picturesque vistas of the mountains and the sea. The club allows non-members to play one of the nines, and, unlike many in Korea, features a driving range. The course is a real challenge, with blind tee shots and abundant (and quite tricky) water hazards; it can take a couple of rounds to develop a strategy for the tougher holes. Upkeep suffers somewhat from the heavy traffic that the course receives, but play is always enjoyable. The large clubhouse offers an array of international and regional dishes.
